Stagecoach demonstration:
At the request of Lynda Beigel, at the last
regular meeting on Thursday, May 15, Marin Transit District
sent two of their operations staff, Stagecoach
Operations Manager, Krystalyn O'Leary and Road Supervisor, Curtis
Schelth, to demonstrate using the lift for getting on and off the
bus. Evelyn Guba using her walker, Bill Lyons using his wheel chair
and Eileen Johnston standing with her cane all boarded and
disembarked with ease and comfort. The Stagecoach people were
cordial and helpful and were appreciated by all.
BUT that doesn't overcome all the difficulties with
using the Stagecoach. See the
Forum for a full discussion of the shortcomings.
The Nancy Sullivan Memorial Fund
We had this suggestion from "middle daughter" Susan Maynard:
"Contributions in Nancy's memory could be made to the Whitecaps, (PO Box 411,
Bolinas 94924) or to Friends House, where she spent the last few months, more often outside surrounded by gardens, gardeners and other interesting people. Friends House, 684 Benicia Drive, Santa Rosa, CA 95409 and 707-573-4500
"
The Whitecaps directors will consider how to set up
a Nancy Sullivan Memorial Fund with the likely purpose being the improvement
of transportation options for our seniors.
Janet Herben, one of Nancy's Berkeley friends, sent the
first donation to the Nancy Sullivan Memorial Fund. Thanks to Janet.
Madeline Balzan, who broke her
shoulder some weeks ago, is in residence at a rehab facility in Tiburon.
Since it is a nice place and near her son, she is happy to be there (for
now). She attended the Ed Letter memorial April 27.

Visit to the de Young for the Chihuly Show - Sept. 9
Gather at 10:00 am at the Boat Club for carpooling; arrive at the Museum
by 11:30; buy tickets; have lunch; visit the show at 1 or 1:30.
We will not be making advanced time reservations. The day and date should
improve our chances for getting the times we want at the door. Here is the
last exchange between me and the Museum's visitor guide:
Ms Brown -
The Whitecaps have decided to go to see the Chihuly show without making
advanced ticket purchases and simply take our chances on being admitted at
either 1 or 1:30 pm on Tuesday Sept. 9. We are hoping that there is little
risk in taking this approach. Arranging for paying in advance just gets too
complicated and difficult.
We plan on being at the ticket counter by 11:30; some of us have memberships
and some will pay for entrance and will try to then schedule for 1 or 1:30,
have lunch in the very nice restaurant and see the exhibit.
Does this plan sound reasonable with a reasonable chance of success?

Bolinas
Roger,
Sounds like a good plan. Probably the earlier the better in terms of getting
someone to buy tickets for people who arrive later. We've found that the
ticket line, etc. gets busier after 11.
Best wishes,
Tish Brown

Prepare to be entertained by the inspiring individuals of YOUNG@HEART, a New England senior citizens chorus that has delighted audiences worldwide with their covers of songs by everyone from The Clash to Coldplay. As Stephen Walker's documentary begins, the retirees, led by their demanding musical director, are rehearsing their new show, struggling with Sonic Youth’s dissonant rock anthem “Schizophrenia” and giving new meaning to James Brown's "I Feel Good." What ultimately emerges is a funny and unexpectedly moving testament to friendship, creative inspiration, and defying expectations.
